“In today’s world, art carries a mission for harmonious existence and happiness”
LEVAN LAGIDZE is a national treasure is his native country of Georgia with work in the permanent collections of major museums in Georgia, Russia, and the United States.
Sharing common experiences while playfully looking deeper beneath the surface is at the core of Lagidze’s textured and multifaceted art. Lagidze looks at the world from the height of the cosmos. And from that perspective, he says, “all elements are equally important and every detail contains within itself an expression of the whole.”
He paints within paintings – art within artworks. His complex palette reflects the multicoloured nature of the world, with blocks of colour both in the forefront and hidden, allowing for endless discoveries.
‘For him painting is a form of gaining a greater awareness ... looking at his paintings, you desire time in quiet contemplation.’ Maka Bezhuashvili, Curator, the National Gallery, Georgian National Museum
In addition to large scale and medium-sized paintings, Lagidze created the My Journey subseries of playful small works, each only 35 x 32cm. For an introduction to the My Journey series, including a short video by Lagidze, click here.
